Floor Above Garage or Cantilevers
Floor Above Garage or Cantilevers
Updated over a year ago

After the first modeling, this will activate the “Insulate Floors” recommendation on the refine screen.

To insulate floors that are located above an unconditioned space like cantilevers or a garage, use “Floors above garage or cantilevers” in the Building section of the input screen.

Floor above Garage:
When you select the garage size, the square footage is calculated as -
200 sqft for each car, plus an extra 100 sqft for storage and misc space.

Cantilevers:
To edit the sqft of the cantilever floor space, first select a garage size to activate the floor modeling - then click on the detail button at the top of the Building section to refine the total sqft for the cantilever.

Both:
If the home has both a floor above the garage and cantilevers, simply combine the total sqft for all portions of the jobs. Double check the installed cost. You might mention in the notes to homeowner what the job entails.

Definitions:

Cavity Insulation: Insulation between floor joist.
Continuous Insulation: Rigid insulation panels across all structural members

Floors above a Crawl Space: see Foundations/Crawl Space

Floors above a basement: If you have an unused/unconditioned basement and want to create a thermal boundary by insulating the floor between the basement and the first floor of the home, you must model this space as a crawl space.
