Home Energy Score now supports multifamily units. Snugg Pro has worked with Home Energy Score (HES) to enable multifamily unit Score generation natively within Snugg Pro.
While the vast majority of Snugg Pro inputs remain unchanged, there are some Multifamily HES requirements to meet before being able to submit for a Score. This article will review those unique inputs.
Unit address
First, the “Address 2” field in Property Details cannot be left blank. The intent is to enter the unit’s number in that field instead of including it in the “Address 1” line.
Floors above Grade
Multifamily HES only supports one-floor units. Snugg Pro cannot generate a Home Energy Score on multifamily units with more than one floor above grade.
This is only a requirement for Home Energy Score. Snugg Pro can readily model multifamily units of more than one floor - but cannot generate Scores. Use Snugg Pro as you normally would for non-HES projects.
Building Type
Choose either apartment or condominium. The model treats either selection the same – the difference is largely semantic based on whether the unit is owned (condo) or rented (apartment).
Shared surfaces
This is only a requirement for Home Energy Score. Use Snugg Pro as you normally would for projects not using Home Energy Score.
Dwellings with shared ceilings, floors, or front or back walls, should be categorized as an apartment/condo. Units that share three or more walls should be categorized as apartment/condo. Units that only share left and/or right walls (front, back, ceiling, and floor are not adjacent to another dwelling) should be categorized as “Single-family attached”.
The decision tree on how to categorize your dwelling for Home Energy Score is provided below.
